Hello my bookwormies.
All I can say is WOW! This book was not what I was expecting, and the story is still carrying on with two complex people Eva and Gideon.
This is the fourth book in the bared to you series, A crossfire novel. Sylvia Day has announced that there is a 5th book however there is no release date as yet, which is killing me because so far these books have been released with a year of each other, I just don’t want to wait another year to follow such a complicated relationship between two characters that Sylvia Day has brought to life so fantastically.
Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.
The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear.
At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream…
The story line for this is very well done, if you have read the other books then you will know how well these characters have been developed. Sylvia has not missed a single detail when it comes to Gideon and Eva’s past, and the issues from the past is causing for these two. Each book that I have read has always ended in such a way that you need to know more. Sylvia definitely draws you in for the final chapter.
I have fell in love with these characters, because you not only learn about the traumatic past that Eva has had in the first book, but you also learn why such a powerful and wealthy man such as Gideon also has a dark past which he keeps hidden behind sex and haunted nightmares. You won’t be able to stop reading about these two as they are not the usual loved up couple you may find in erotic or romance books, these are like real people to me, and that they have a past that causes hurdles in their relationship and how the demons from the past can cause a huge strain on a relationship.
“Despite all he’d been through, he had such an amazing capacity to feel and to love. He’d saved me, in so many ways. I was going to do whatever needed to be done to save him, too.”
This book to me is based more on Gideon, how he fights everyday to keep Eva safe, while putting his drama and ex’s on the back seat to ensure that Eva is his main focus. Gideon is the best male character I have come across. He is a hardworking successful man who is picking up the pieces from his dad’s failure, experiencing his most traumatic moment in his life after losing his father to suicide, he is still trying to be a strong man to the media and the man he feels Eva needs, however he is helping himself. I found this book was full of arguments and showing that a relationship of this much intensity is not a smooth ride, and you can lose the person you love because of how the past changes you.
“No I need to hear it. I’m scared, Eva. I’ve never felt fear like this. I’m afraid you won’t come back . . . That you won’t give me another chance.”
I don’t want to reveal to much to you all especially if you haven’t read the other books. Those of you who do follow the book will know what I am talking about. I suggest you all read the series for the whole story on these two characters.
Someone who hasn’t read these books and just read captivated by you said:
“It’s passionate, addictive, and truly one of the best I’ve ever read. I absolutely adore this couple, I’ve loved every part of their story so far, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.”
I give this book 4 stars and I think that is only due to the book not having so much of a plot behind it, I did love it don’t get me wrong but there were times I thought when are we going to see progress in the relationship as it seems there are times it picks up but then it falls again but harder. I hope in the next book I see more between Eva and Gideon because I know the drama is great but these characters need more than sex and past demons resurfacing all the time. Someone who has read the series said: while you do see Ava and Gideon making progress in regards to their relationship, there was no substantial anything that occurred in this book. It just felt flat and redundant throughout.
“You’ll never be without me. We’re going to grow old together. Die together. I’m not going to live a single day without you.”
