Book Review: In His Corner By Vina Arno

Good reads coverNo sex for almost a year could kill a guy, but when you’re the boxer known as the Juggernaut, it’s the price you pay for turning pro. Tommy’s fully dedicated to his craft, until he meets the incredibly gorgeous Dr. Siena Carr. Now he’s looking forward to taking on this prim and proper lady in a wet and wild work-out…

Siena has seen many patients come through the ER, but none as sexy as Tommy Raines. With a nasty cut over his eye, she knows he needs stiches, but after he takes off his shirt, she needs some air. With rock-hard abs and taut biceps, it’s clear this man takes care of his body. And all Siena can think about is letting him take care of hers…

Overall

The book starts off with Tommy coming into the ER post fight with a wound to his eyebrow that requires stitching, Siena’s friends are already hyped as they know the Juggernaut  and cannot wait for Siena to treat him, funny part is Siena has no idea who this guy is and why fighting makes him such a huge celebrity, but she does not care and just wants to treat him and get him home.  This is when the flirting and desires come in to play.  The next couple chapters is Tommy trying to get Siena to come on a date with him,  with a lot of help from her friends, while Siena battles with the fact he is a lot younger than her, and completely different from the men she has dated in the past.  This is when her Snob side came out.

From the beginning I really enjoyed that the book covered the point of view of both characters, making the story feel unbiased.  I was not hooked at the very beginning, I think that was mainly because I could not relate to Sienna’s character, she had a strong personality that to me was hard to understand.  Since reading the whole book I did enjoy it, there was definitely a few heated scenes, but there wasn’t too much like some erotica genres, but I liked that, I felt I was able to see more of a personal side to their relationship that wasn’t just sex, but actually meaningful.   Ass their relationship grows, I liked that they struggled and noticed the personality clash but tried to work on them, it felt more realistic and this I could relate to.  Opposites can attract and it worked in this case.
The ending really threw me, I was finishing this book yesterday and was excited to see what was going to happen next but then I had completed it,  I had to double check it was definitely the end.   By the end I was hooked and getting excited about Siena and Tommy’s future.    Perhaps a second book is coming??? I don’t know, we shall have to wait and see.

I gave this book a 4 star review on Goodreads, because it was enjoyable but it did take me a while to get hooked.  Well done to the author, definitely worth a read, if you like Romance, erotica.

Tommy Raines  – AKA the Juggernaut

Tommy is a 22 year old boxer who aims to be the best boxer in the world, his first goal is to win his big fight in Las Vegas.  He is a well known boxer, he won in the London Olympics, TV sponsor and general Celebrity.
Tommy comes across as a normal young 22 year old,  all about sex, and fun, wanting to enjoy his life with his “homies”, however he is very strict when it comes to his career.  For example he won’t drink alcohol and will work out daily as part of his training.   He also made a pact that he would not get into a relationship or have sex for a year until after his fight so that he could give his training all his energy, this is due to a break up and his mum passing all in the same year.   This showed me his sensitive side.

I also got the feeling that he knew he was good looking, the way he flirted all the time came across as full on, but then I think he did that to see how Sienna would react.

Tommy was a lovely character to read, for the first time I enjoyed reading about a male lead more than I did the female lead.

Siena Carr

Siena is a 26 year old Doctor who came from a very privileged family, she attended the best schools and pretty much only dated graduates.  She spends most of her time at work and then helping charities on the side for free.  However I found her such a snob, she is even referred to as a snob by Tommy- for example she wears Calvin Klein and only wears designer clothes, even for every day.

She dated her ex for 6 years, they ended their relationship mutually.  My first thoughts when I started reading from her point of view was that, she comes across as a closed of person, arrogant, and would not even thank someone for a compliment.    When it came to Tommy – like come on, if a sexy man said he thought I was beautiful I would be blushing and thanking him, even if it was a patient, it’s the polite thing to do, but not Siena.

However I did enjoy watching her change and grow as a person.  She never dates men  younger than her, would never be seen in a restaurant in the lower end of town, or go clubbing.  But it was lovely to see Tommy help bring out the fun and younger side of her, he really helped her growth, and gave her a reality check.
