After making a fatal mistake on the job, Lina Zuendel seeks shelter in a Seattle assisted-living facility as their live-in nurse. But peace is not what she finds. She soon hears tales of ghosts haunting the house, and of two tragic deaths that took place in the 1930s. Unexplained events send her to ask questions of the handsome resident houseboy.

Ren Schultz, a seemingly young live-in houseboy, tries to avoid his growing attraction to the new nurse. His secrets are too dangerous to share, no matter how lonely he has become. But Lina is persistent, and soon uncovers dark truths that no one else has dared
to face.

As their attraction grows, so does the intensity of the paranormal activity. Can their love survive the mysteries that lurk in the old sorority house

The Gilded King – Release day!

availale at amazon

In the Blue, the world’s last city, all is not well.
Julia is stuck within its walls. She serves the nobility from a distance until she meets Lucas, a boy who believes in fairytales that Julia’s world can’t accommodate. The Blue is her prison, not her castle, and she’d escape into the trees if she didn’t know that contamination and death awaited humanity outside.
But not everyone in the Blue is human, and not everyone can be contained.
Beyond the city’s boundaries, in the wild forests of the Red, Cameron has precious little humanity left to lose. As he searches for a lost queen, he finds an enemy rising that he thought long dead. An enemy that the humans have forgotten how to fight.
One way or another, the walls of the Blue are going to come down. The only question is what side you’ll be on when they do.

Excerpt:

At the very furthest point of the temple, at the end of the double row of pillars that processed towards it, there was a pedestal mounted on a stepped dais. A figure was laid out on top of it. For a moment, Julia froze, thinking it was a real person lying there, slumbering in the temple, but something didn’t fit.

The figure wasn’t breathing. It wasn’t moving at all.

‘Come on,’ Lucas said, leading her down the aisle towards it.

‘Is it a statue?’ she asked.

‘A tomb, really.’

As they walked, he snuffed out the lamps that lined the walls, until finally the only illumination came from the rounded alcove into which the dais rose. It was a bright island in the centre of the darkness, and in the middle of it the statue shone: a man, wearing fine clothing in an unfamiliar style, with a blanket of stone covering his body. His exposed skin was tinged with a sheen of gold that glowed like the walls of the temple.

‘He looks so real,’ she said, reaching out to touch the golden curls that crowned his head. They were slick under her fingers, so intricate they might have been moulded from a real person.

‘They say he was.’

‘You mean this is his coffin?’ The pedestal certainly looked like a tomb. It was wide and deep enough to accommodate a body.

‘No,’ Lucas said, ‘I mean that this is him, that this statue was once alive.’

Julia’s hand had been tracing the lines of the face, but now she snatched it away. ‘You’re not serious.’

‘I am.’

‘This is why you brought me here,’ she said.

‘Of course. You want to hear the fairytale, don’t you?’

The coverage this product states to give is real.  The only problem with my sample is that it doesn’t remove as much product from the wand like the full sized product does.  I think that this is a design problem with the sample, making it cheaper.  This just means I need to scrape off the product from the wand to make sure my eye lashes are not too thick.
But wow overall my eyelashes are voluminous, well coated, and my eyelashes have never looked clumpy.
A little goes a long way, I have put on this mascara everyday since March and I have loads of product left 🙂 which is awesome.
I will definitely be spending my pennies and buying the full sized product when this one runs out.

My Baby pregnancy update – possible concerns – Posterior Urethral Valve???

Hey all, so this is something new.
As my pregnancy comes to the end I have had a few concerns which I wanted to share to possible meet other mums + dads who’s little ones have the same complications.
As I am writing this I am 37+5 weeks pregnant (13/06/18) and having a little boy, very exciting. We have his room ready, he owns more clothes than I do….. this is not fair, and I am ready for him to come now.
I want to chat to you all today about my journey, and the possibility that there is a possibility our little man has what is called posterior urethral valve – affects the bladder and kidneys (common in 8-10,000 baby boys).

DSC_9313 (2)

Let me introduce you all to Craig and I 🙂 – we have been together for over 9 years now. Our little bubba was not planned and I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant in October 2017, he was a shock to the both of us, however we are so excited to start our little family and look forward to the new learning curve.

This post will be a little long but I have lots of information for those of you interested.

img001.jpg

Above photo

Here was our first scan where baby was exactly 12 weeks old 🙂 I was so glad I kept track of my periods to ensure everything was accurate. At this point nearly all of us on both sides of the family were pretty sure we were having a girl. Craig on the other hand was adamant we were having a little boy – he was right AGAIN 😛 .
At this point we were told we were at low risk of downs syndrome, baby was a good size and very healthy. He was that active that he kept shooting across the screen, the midwife couldn’t keep up.

Below Photo

Here our baby was 18+1 weeks old. We paid for a private scan to see our little ones gender and have a 4D sneaky peak. We are so glad we did this as we were disappointed with the photos from our 20 week scan, we were rushed and just sent away.
This scan was with Window to the womb in Exeter, they were fantastic. They spent their time on us, made sure we were happy, and kept scanning until we had plenty of photos that we were happy with. They also included a video of our scan as well as a teddy with bubba’s heart beat inside.
This photo/scan is my favourite, I mean look at his little nose, adorable. This was when we found out we were having a little boy. He was so active at this scan too and wanted us to see his little man parts before anything else haha.

RYFRTJQSG_Hannah_6

After our 21 week scan we were told we would not be having another one which is normal. At this point everything to do with his bladder and kidneys were normal. As time went on our baby was beginning to measure on the large scale, and appeared to have quite a large growth spurt.
Around 30 weeks I saw a consultant about my heart rate – I used to have SVT which caused my heart to speed up at random times, I had an ablation in 2013 but since being pregnant I was getting palpitations more often, so I was referred to see a consultant. Anyway the appointment went well, however because he was measuring big still she referred me to have a growth scan just to double check it was him that was large.

So following my growth scan at 31+5 weeks the sonographer said the baby appeared to have an enlarged bladder, enlarged kidneys especially his left and that I need to see the consultant again.
We saw the same consultant I had met at 30 weeks the next day who asked for the gender to help with diagnosis, after she did a scan herself she came to a conclusion which was upsetting to me and my other half but gave us all scenarios. As his enlarged kidneys and bladder had not shown at our 20 week scan she was very hopeful that our little man could be treated fast.

DSC_9305.JPG

(Baby shower cake)

So possible diagnosis is that our little boy could have what is called Posterior Urethral Valve which only happens to boys, after some internet research it can affect 8,000-10,000 baby boys.
So basically (holding back my medical jargon), bubba has a small bit of skin that may or may not have grown at the bottom of his bladder preventing him from passing urine (But as there was a lot of fluid around him, the consultant thinks he is passing urine whether it be small amounts or he is holding it in).
Even though the fluid around him is good her concern was that he must be retaining some urine as his bladder was enlarged as well as both kidneys, which means he is backing up.
There is no rush to induce him, his lungs looked perfect which showed the fluid is not backing up too far and getting into his respiratory system, he is swallowing the fluid around hi, and processing it well.
While he is still in me my placenta does most of the work for him therefor his kidneys won’t need to do so much work.

complications – treatment

When bubba is born he will have a few tests in the first 24 hours. These tests include an USS of his abdomen, blood tests and fluid monitoring of how much he passes. The consultant has reassured me that it will not be rushed, I can have a normal labour, skin to skin contact, breast feed and get plenty of cuddles. All I have to do is make sure he gets all these tests before we leave the hospital.

USS – If the Ultra sound scan shows that bubba has this flap of skin in his bladder we will be sent to Bristol straight away with him having a catheter inserted. In Bristol bubba will have to have a cystoscopy under general anaesthetic to burn away the skin – which should hopefully mean it is all over with and he won’t have any more issues, but just to have follow up appointments.
Blood tests –He will have a few sets of bloods taken to check that he is not in Renal failure ( kidney failure) due to his enlarged kidneys, this is the worst scenario. If he does have renal failure he won’t be able to have dialysis until he is 1, and may need a transplant when old enough. Obviously this freaked me out, however being a nurse I understood the complications.
Fluid monitoring –He will be on a strict fluid chart, because if he is passing urine we need to measure exactly how much. We have to monitor to make sure that his bladder has not gone into spasm due to being so enlarged. If his bladder is struggling he will need surgery at some point to take some of his stomach and make it into a bladder for him.

DSC_9308

Throughout this whole process Craig has been amazing, so supportive. He is going to be the best dad. Being a nurse I should be supporting him and explaining information in more depth however I was the one who was an emotional wreck.
Obviously everything is a mystery until our little man is born.
If you would like to know my delivery story I will do an up date post, and I can then tell you all how everything went down.
We are both excited to meet our little boy and cannot wait to see who he looks like, get to see his personality and finally give him some cuddles.

Please comment below if you have been through this, want to know what happens, or have more suggestions for posts on my baby.

In Between – Book Review

Rachel has always wanted one thing, true love. She has dreamed about her perfect wedding since she was little and it seems she will finally get it with her fiancé Ethan. However when Rachel meets Tom, an elegant, smart conceited lawyer, everything she believes and feels is called into question. This is a captivating story about the power of distance, lack of time spent between couples, and confusion that put Rachel In Between the two men. Caught in the web of the consequences of their decisions, life’s twists and turns, and the effects of karma on each of the characters. This book will make you question the reason why we do things, and will push you to side with characters as you live through their choices. In Between emphasizes the importance of bonds, true love and the power of forgiveness, and how these can turn the worst of situations into valuable life lessons of love and hope.

Hey welcome back to a long time coming book review, oops.  It has been a while and I have been trying to read this book since April (OMG).

I was sent this paperback ARC copy for an honest review by the author.  And honest is what you’re going to get.

The book is based on a love triangle between the main character Rachel and two men in her life Ethan, and Tom.

Rachel has always been with Ethan, he is her first love and they’re engaged.  Rachel starts off feeling her relationship has reached an end, Ethan is constantly away at conferences whilst she is left at home, in a small job and no advance in their future.

Rachel then meets Tom, a new Lawyer.  Sparks ignite and these two hit it off.  Rachel finds herself falling for this new man, they have so much in common, and start spending more time together, slowly over 6 months she begins to fall in love.
However at the same time Ethan suddenly becomes more attentive, proposes to Rachel again and sets a date for their wedding,  now she is stuck, she loves them both.

DSC_9319

Overall I began to dislike Rachel, her feelings and actions became too complex.  She had two hard working men love her, Tom knew about Ethan but still pursued her over 6 months, where as poor Ethan was working hard, supporting Rachel through some hard times in her life, and he was none the wiser about what she was doing behind his back.  She was off enjoying weekends away with Tom while Ethan was at conferences.

I found myself getting increasingly frustrated,  I even turned to my other half and told him what was happening in the book and that Rachel needs to choose a man already.  Most women would love to be with either one of these men, and she can’t choose so decides to have them both – NO THAT IS NOT FAIR.
This made it hard to carry on reading because I was getting so annoyed with Rachel, on the other hand my other half pointed out that I must like the story to get so frustrated …… He is right (don’t tell him that though hehe).

Finally Rachel makes a decision at the end, but not before everything goes wrong, and her world is turned upside down.
I did feel the end was very rushed and some parts could have been left out.
Overall the book was a good light read,  I would recommend if you like light hearted romance books.  Unfortunately it didn’t keep me glued to the pages like I would like therefor I would only rate this book a 3/5.

Reviews from others:

I struggled with the story a little on this one, it was hard to connect with Rachel as her logic and motivations just seemed so strange and confusing to me. I honestly didn’t get what she saw in Tom, he just seemed to be somewhat of a jerk in this whole situation. I adored Ethan though, his character just seemed to get better and better.  – (Alicia Stubbs – Amazon)

The plot twists in the narrative are well done and genuinely surprisingly. I never expected the novel to go the way it did, which was refreshing. It wasn’t just a typical love triangle that appears far too frequently in storytelling and I liked how Fernández did something different. – (Louise – Amazon).

Rachel has a fiance and has a wonderful life. She has pretty much everything a woman in a romance novel could ever want, until a new coworker appears and shakes up her world. – (Isaiah – Goodreads).

From the very beginning of this novel, I found myself thinking, is this book actually going to go anywhere? The book’s synopsis seemed to rest heavily on the relationship between the protagonist, her fiancé, and her lover. This is obvious, given the book’s premise, but when I agreed to review it I was kind of hoping that it would be about something a little more profound than just an ordinary, mundane, love triangle. – (Amy Buckle – Goodreads).

June Birchbox review – why am I cancelling?

Hello all, welcome back to another Birchbox review, and my last Birchbox review. Lets jump straight into it.

DSC_9323

First of all I liked the tin idea.   At least with a tin I know it will last longer than the normal boxes and it is re-usable.  However I DISLIKED the design, it is so old fashioned.  The design is for their 5th year Birthday, but not pretty compared to the other boxes I have received.
Lets dive into the products.

DSC_9324

Whittard of Chelsea tea bags x3

Yep tea bags,  I don’t even drink tea so this was a waste.  In my profile when I complete my likes, dislikes and preferences no where did it state do I want tea in my box.  I bet this is because it’s a UK box – STEREOTYPES!!
There were 3 flavours:
1- Earl Grey
2 – Mango & Bergamot
3 – Lemon & Ginger

DSC_9325

POLAAR sun cream – retail price £25

Another product that I didn’t really need, I will use it as it is sun cream but not needed as a sample.  Sun cream is so easy to purchase why spend £25 on it :/
I am turning into  a negative reviewer, but when I spend money for samples and I get two products so far that I won’t really use…… WASTE

DSC_9326

AMIKA Bombshell blowout spray – retail price £14.99

Okay I received 2 hair products again this month,  I don’t even use them all.  This is a common complaint online that I see, makeup products are less and less where as there is always loads of hair products….
However I did try this texture spray the other day for my ponytail and it was very good- used on dry hair.  I probably would buy the larger version.

DSC_9327

Benefit – POREfessional pearl primer – RRP £27.50 full sized.

YAY beauty products, and a good one.  I have wanted to try this primer for a while but refused to pay the full price.  I was sent a tin tiny sample size which is good enough.  I do like it under my makeup, it smooths out dry skin and dry spots – leaving my makeup after application flawless.

DSC_9328

Number 4 Jour d’automne smoothing balm – RRP £24.50

I have tried the balm when my hair was dry due to me having naturally frizzy/curly hair.
It worked well, but really smells like men’s lynx body spray :p weird but it works.

DSC_9329

Ella Eden eye shadow – RRP £12.99

Very nice creamy eye shadow, no fall out and very shimmery.
I use this in the centre of my eyelid for a highlight.
May even be good to use as a highlight on the face, see the swatch below.

DSC_9330DSC_9331

I have tried this box for the last 4 months, however I have decided I no longer want to spend £12.99 a month on this box.
I get loads of hair products and rarely get makeup products like promised.  Each month I am slowly becoming disappointed.
My profile was always updated so that products should match my needs however I never felt Birchbox paid attention to it.

This month was the last one I wanted and I have now decided to cancel my subscription.

Will I look into other boxes HELL YES! However next time I am going to research into a lot more depth to get the best price for my money.
Leave your thoughts below.
