Review – Darkness Rising By Katie Reus

From USA Today bestselling author Katie Reus comes the final story in the sensual, pulse-pounding Darkness series…

When a bringer of death…

Awakened after millennia, dragon warrior Reaper is ready to fulfill his destiny…until he sees Greer. With one glimpse, everything Reaper has ever known throughout his very long life is irrevocably changed. Greer’s his mate, he feels it in his blood, in his soul—but convincing her is another matter. The dragon clan healer finds him obnoxious and annoying, but he knows a woman’s interest when he smells it. And Greer smells like one word: mine.

Meets a giver of life…

Greer has spent hundreds of years using her healing abilities for the good of others, making her the polar opposite of Reaper. The ferocious war general may be an ancient, but his arrogance proves he hasn’t spent any of that time learning about women. Greer is displeased when her Alpha sends her to New Orleans with the insufferable warrior—then she sees him in action against a menace threatening to tear the city apart. Fierce, protective, magnificent…mate-worthy. Except he’s hiding something from her. Something dark and devastating that could destroy their newly forged bond. Maybe opposites do attract, but if they want to live long enough to find out, they’ll first have to save the world teetering on the brink of obliteration.

Length: NOVEL
Author note: This is the final book in the Darkness series and can be read as a stand-alone.

Review

The whole basis of this book is that all supernatural creatures exist! Dragons, vampires, werewolf’s and demons are real. But they keep themselves hidden, protecting us from the evil that faces the world, living in packs. Until Brennus a dragon decides he is going to take the world into his own hands.

The book shifts primarily between the point of view of Greer and Reaper, with some insight into Brennus’ world.
Greer is a dragon shifter/ healer for her pack. She came across as knowledgeable however in other ways quite adolescent. I enjoyed reading the progress and journey that Greer goes on, and by the end of the book I found her to be strong, independent and actually a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take it.

Reaper on the other hand is an ancient, rising in a new century, completely oblivious to the technology and the fact that humans no longer know about the supernatural.
He comes across as strong, sometimes obnoxious and a man that gets straight to the point. However I know that his character is mainly set in his old ways from centuries ago.

The sexual tension and raunchy scenes throughout the book were gradual, and enough to keep following the plot, but add some character depth.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and the world it was based in. This is the first book I have read from this author and in the series, I do believe this is the last book in the series however I read it as a stand alone and was able to follow everything from start to finish with no questions.
The story line was fast paced throughout but on the other hand very steady, the book flowed, whilst the plot slowly developed to build a powerful yet uplifting ending.

My favourite character moments have to be where Reaper is trying to show his dominant alpha male side however Greer quickly puts him into place every time. I liked each characters development throughout, the author kept me interested and did not disappoint.
