Advance Excerpt From Archangel’s War

by Nalini Singh

“We watch,” the Primary said. “We protect.”

But things were altering in front of them, a faint glow emanating from where the aeclari had been before the filaments obscured both Raphael’s body and Elena’s chrysalis.

Beyond the balcony doors now partially covered with the snow silk of the filaments, the Bluebell turned. His eyes widened at seeing the ocean of filaments, the glow. But before he could open the closed doors, a familiar voice entered all their minds.

Leave now. It was an order from an archangel. Clear the skies above. Empty the land around. GO.

The Legion were moving even as the last word echoed in their minds. They were Raphael’s Legion, Elena’s Legion, and they had been given an order. The Bluebell wasn’t Legion. He was one of the Seven. Unique. With his own mind.

Torment wrenched his features, but he inclined his head, and the Primary saw him form the word, “Sire.”

All of them moved.

The Bluebell dropped to the grass, then ran inside the house.

The Legion broke into four parts and swept the area. Winged beings were already flying toward the river at high speed, their faces stark and their jaws determined. The Legion dropped down in front of cars moving on the nearest road. The cars were not so close to the aeclari’s home, but the archangel hadn’t said how far to clear.

When the first two cars halted with a screech that caused a burning scent to rise to their nostrils, the Legion wrenched the doors open and hauled the startled vampires out. A group of the Legion rose into the air, two to a vampire. Another group found four humans in a third car, a vampire’s cattle heading home. The scared cattle whimpered at being taken by the Legion but didn’t struggle. Neither did the vampires after they saw the angels racing from the Enclave to the water.

Golden light poured out from the windows of the aeclari’s home.

Many of the angels streaming over the water held vampires or humans in their arms, getting their households out of danger. The Bluebell was one of the last to fly out of the Enclave, and though the Legion did not speak to many outside of the aeclari, they spoke to him: Are the aeclari’s people safe? This was important. The Legion knew. The aeclari had bonds to those who lived in the house.

Yes, I got them out. The Bluebell, who could fly faster than the Primary and sometimes raced with the cars of the Blade and the Viper, fell off the cliff with his wings licked by a golden light so bright that it was difficult to face. In one hand, he held a large rectangular thing, in his other items they recognized.

Several of the Legion flew to him, and took the things. They did not understand things, but these were linked to the aeclari in their mind. We will fly them to the Tower.

Most of the angels kept on flying toward Manhattan, and those of the Legion that carried vampires or mortals kept on going, too. But the Primary turned once he was over the center of the river, as did those of his brethren who flew only their own bodies.

The Bluebell halted in front of them, the silvery blue of his wings spread and his face awash in the burning golden light that had turned the river to gold.

And the light, it grew, and grew, and grew.

Until at last, the light was so bright that it became fire and even the Primary couldn’t bear it and threw up his arm in front of his eyes. The last thing he saw was an intense white brightness.

Archangel’s Prophecy Review.

 My Review

Goodreads – Archangel’s Prophecy
Genre: Fantasy, paranormal, Romance.
Pages: 372
Published: October 30th

Eeek!! the time has come to review this AMAZING book.  I read it in a day, and oh my god.  That’s all I can say.
I don’t think I can wait until 2019 for the next one.

The book jumps back into the lives of both Elena and Raphael.
Elena is Raphael’s consort, but trained hunter who still works with the Guild, alongside her best friend Sara.

Elena is one kick ass Heroine in all the books she features in, hence Raphael’s attraction to her from the beginning.
Raphael is a powerful Archangel in charge of New York City, he begins to grow with more angel fire within becoming stronger and stronger in each book, ready to fight in the Cascade.
The love between these two is undeniably strong, since she is the first angel in thousands of years turned from mortal to immortal by the kiss of ambrosia Raphael  produced.  Read the first book to see their love begin.   Elena makes Raphael that little bit more mortal at heart.

In the beginning Elena’s vampire brother in law is attacked, left close to death, which also threatens her sister and niece.  The story follows Elena tracking down the culprit and uncovering dark truths, as well as battling her own fears of weakening.

Elena begins to hear an ancient voice in her head, over and over again telling her of a prophecy.  A part of the Prophecy is an immortal must die…..
“You must for the other to live”.  But of course Elena is not having any of that, she makes her future with Raphael, the Cascade will not control them.
Owls begin to appear to only her, lint starts to grow from her skin, the legion state the pain she is feeling will not kill her but be part of her “Becoming”.

Her wings become weaker, she loses weight at an incredible rate, and her rate of healing becomes like that of a mortal.  The healers are baffled and so is Raphael.  Raphael is furious and worried, for him there is no world without Elena if she dies, he would give into the darkness and fall within himself if anything happened to her.
He just makes me swoon every time he tells her “Elena mine”, or “Hunter – mine”.

But the real heart wrenching part of this book is 3/4 of the way through.  Probably the first time in a long time I have cried in a book.  This is when the book really changes and the fate of these two becomes unsure.

Since reading reviews from others who received an ARC, the ending has been a widely debated topic.  Everyone was going on about a cliffhanger.  There has been mixed reviews, people refusing to read the series after the ending..  I did not find the ending a cliffhanger, but more of a genius way of Nalini Singh keeping her readers hooked for the next instalment.  I for one am so upset, confused, intrigued to see where book number 12 takes us.  Will the fight of the Cascade begin.  What happens with these two.
Once again Nalini has not disappointed.

5 Stars for this book

Book Blurb

Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind…and now they’re failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she’s regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.

Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before it’s too late and Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering in New York and across the world.

In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.

This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.

About the Author

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his

eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

Archangel’s Prophecy Has Arrived.

I am beyond excited to read this book.  Eek I am not going to be as fast as everyone else with a review as things at home are crazy.  But I intend to spend this week focusing on this book.  I have been waiting a whole year 🙂 some of the reviews already out are making me so excited.

What can I say, Beautiful.   “I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book”.

I have previously read Book Review: Releasing the Demons as well as Book Review: Black Bullet by L.D.Rose.  So when the author approached me via email with a chance to read another book of hers being released on 13/09/17 I jumped at the chance.  I received this advance reader copy and it just kept calling out to me to jump right in and read it.

This story is #9 in the Soul mate tree series.  However it appears they are all individual stories by multiple authors.
E book pages- 152.
Short and I read this in a couple hours today.

Sexy young couple kissing and playing in bed.

It is not often that I decide to read a book in a whole day, in fact that hasn’t happened since prior to my Nursing days.  For a short story I was not disappointed.  Once I started reading I was engrossed into Irene and Bash’s life, I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in their thoughts and love for one another.  Each chapter delves into the life of Irene and Bash, and finding their way back to one another again.

This story mixed my two favourite genres, romance and Fantasy.
Archangels are mentioned in a lot of books but each time I enjoy seeing how the author portrays them and involves them in the book.
This book included the big names- Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.  The others were also included but these stuck out.
The right mix of friendship, love, action and fantasy was incorporated into Sweet Sacrifice and I was engrossed from start to finish.

I definitely recommend you all pre-order this book and share with your friends.  I have already messaged my sister and told her she HAS to get this book when it is released or I will buy it for her.

This story sent me on a whirlwind of emotions, definitely had me falling…….

I can not tell you too much more in fear of spoiling it all for you.  Just trust me when I say you have to read it.  L.D. Rose did not disappoint.

Archangels Enigma: Monday read

“Oh, Naasir. So weird, so bloodthirsty, so unique and wonderful…I have fallen for him…”—Fiction Vixen
Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.
Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows…and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

This will be my next book to read and review for you all🙂 I am super excited. The top book cover is in America and the second one is the international cover.

Fallen By Lauren Kate: A Book Review

What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?

17-year-old Lucinda falls in love with a gorgeous, intelligent boy, Daniel, at her new school, the grim, foreboding Sword & Cross . . . only to find out that Daniel is a fallen angel, and that they have spent lifetimes finding and losing one another as good & evil forces plot to keep them apart.

Get ready to fall . . .

Hello all and welcome back to my blog, please do not forget to follow my blog and Facebook page to keep up to date with all my posts.

Today I bring you Fallen by Lauren Kate, a “sexy, fascinating and scary” book.  This was a book recommended to me by someone at work who knew I loved a fantasy book which had a romantic twist.  Basically a young adult book.  These have been my favourite Genre’s since I was little, and I have read many from the collection to sort of know what to expect.

First of all this book is about a young girl called Lucinda Falls who is a 17 year old girl who has been sent to a control school for either committing or not committing a crime that killed a boy she kissed.  This school is known as the Sword and Cross which houses about 80 children/young adults.  On her first day there are the typical first day school nerves, nicknames, bullies and friendships.  The one person however that stands out from the rest is Daniel.  Daniel pays attention to Lucinda “Luce” from afar and always keeps his distance.  Since meeting Daniel Luce starts to have flashbacks and weird dreams which feel very realistic, and confusing, she has this feeling that she knows Daniel from somewhere.
After a couple days and tours of the grounds she is nearly crushed by a headstone in the schools graveyard, however who was there at the time and seemed to save her?….. Daniel.
Luce can’t understand how Daniel saved her, and why she is pulled to him, however she is also attracting the attention from another school boy Cam.
But who will she choose?

My favourite character in this book overall would be Penn.  She is a sweet innocent girl who becomes friends with Luce by knowing how to get to student files, and the main school files, because of her dad and his position at the Sword and Cross.
The reason Penn became my favourite character was because she seems the most realistic, as realistic as a fantasy book can be.  She was kind, shy, but most of all reminded me of myself, which made me relate to her more.  I think other readers will also like her for the way she is around Luce.

The story kept me guessing quite a lot, because it was very confusing at times with twists and turns.  I wonder if this was purposely put into the book because Luce is a teenager.  Nothing about this new school is normal for her.  Luce was a top grade achiever at her school near her parents, and now she is in a school where the education is questionable and, she has no idea what the other people at her school have done to become young offenders.

My favourite part about the book was 53% of the way through , at this point Daniel and Luce are talking about her secrets,  and Cam is showing a larger interest in her, which is causing tension with Daniel.  These were the best chapters as they became tense and mysterious.
However this happened only halfway through the book, before this section I was struggling to keep reading as I felt the story wasn’t progressing.  After about page 240 the story began to pick up and become really interesting, I was hooked and didn’t stop reading it for two nights.

Overall I liked the book by the end and I do want to buy the second in the series.  The ending was fast, tense and full of suspense, and was left leading onto the next book , by leaving you wanting more.  The story had only just begun.
The only big downside to this book was I felt the beginning was very slow.  I struggled to give the book my full attention and kept putting it down over a space of a month, I found the start very repetitive and nothing was happening.   When I read a few more reviews where people said the story picks up in the middle, and becomes interesting, I wasn’t interested. However after the reviews I knew I needed to sit down and really try to keep reading on, and I am glad I did.

Overall I would give this first book a 3 1/2 out of 5, only due to the beginning which didn’t pull me in, but the ending was great and it left me wanting to read more.
