What have I recently finished?

Two years ago, he took my innocence and ran,
Luckily for me, he’s a slow runner.
He doesn’t know that he gave me the most beautiful gift in the world – my son.
I’m going to give him a gift too – revenge!
And if he’s thinking he can get me and my son…
Well, he can go take a walk!

She’s my best friend’s little sister.
I should never have touched her.
But I did.
She was hot. She was fun. She was begging me for it.
So I gave it to her… all night long.
I told her I loved her. I promised her the moon and stars.
I meant every word.
Then I vanished. I couldn’t tell her why. I still can’t.
We haven’t talked since.
But I saw her yesterday. She’s still hot enough to stop traffic,
Even with a kid.
She’s got secrets, but so do I.
I know she still wants me, but she’s not begging this time.
This time she wants me to beg.
But I don’t beg. I take.
And I’m taking Jessi. Secrets and all.

Review coming tomorrow…… stay tuned.

What am I currently reading?

New Orleans is a city known for its paranormal history—and it’s the place Emma Rose Crane, AKA Mattie Hathaway, has come home to.

She hopes she can start over in New Orleans, where her ability to see ghosts isn’t so freaky. She’s even starting college, but the whole thing would be a lot easier if she weren’t faced with a family she barely knows, all while dealing with the loss of someone she loved.

Can she really escape her past and be semi-normal? Even with her sister Mary and best friend Eric by her side, it’s going to be a wild ride once she agrees to help Mary’s new friends investigate a “haunted” house.

The house’s new occupants are terrified, and the ghost seems to be attacking their little girl, leaving everyone desperate for answers. Emma isn’t sure what to think when she discovers Dr. Lawrence Olivet was also invited to investigate.

Will her gifts be enough to save the family that is currently being stalked in their own home? And when some of her own family’s long-kept secrets come to light, will her fresh start be over before it even begins?

Switched – the first book in the Trylle Trilogy…

When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn’t until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right.

With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed – a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy’s not sure she wants to be a part of it.

The perfect genre for me again.  You will find all I love to read are paranormal, fantasy books.  This genre interests me the most because I can get lost in the pages.

Book Review – The Gilded King (Sovereign Series).

I have come to the conclusion that my reading slump is down to the fact that I am just not enjoying Torment from the Fallen series.  I have kept trying and will continue to try and finish it.  However it feels more like a task.   I began reading The Gilded King 2 days ago now, after the author announced on Twitter that it is currently free to download on kindle.  And I was not disappointed.  In fact after this post I will be buying the second book to find out what happens next.

Free to download via Kindle.

In the last city on Earth, death is just a step into the trees.

In the Blue, the world’s last city, all is not well.

Julia is stuck within its walls. She serves the nobility from a distance until she meets Lucas, who believes in fairytales that her world can’t accommodate. The Blue is her prison, not her castle, and she’d escape into the trees if she didn’t know that contamination and death awaited humanity outside.

But not everyone in the Blue is human, and not everyone can be contained.

Beyond the city’s boundaries, in the wild forests of the Red, Cameron has precious little humanity left to lose. As he searches for a lost queen, he finds an enemy rising that he thought long dead. An enemy that the humans have forgotten how to fight.

One way or another, the walls of the Blue are going to come down. The only question is what side you’ll be on when they do.

Review

First of all you could read this as a stand alone however I would recommend you read the previous series Solis Invicti (Series of 4 books).

The Gilded King was addictive.  Drawing me back into the fantasy world of vampires and Weepers.  Josie did an amazing job once again (Round of applause), I was captivated and thrown into a new world set centuries ahead of time.   Josie did not disappoint,  as a reader you are given two perspectives of this new world.  One from Cam a Silver from before the world was taken by the Fall (You will understand this reference in the book).  And another Julia, a server who has known nothing other than the world she is now in, born into a world controlled by vampires, controlled by the nobles.
Two very different people, but both set at the same time experiencing, and fighting through the current changes that effect everyone.

I have enjoyed getting lost in this book over the last couple of days.  The characters growth and relationships are gradual.   There is more flirtation between characters in this series so far compared to the last, previously in the Solis Invicti, I found myself reading Emmy jumping into relationships.  More sex and less of a gradual friendship/Romance.  However that was the beginning of the world ending so maybe Emmy was just living her life to the fullest.

I enjoyed reading from both perspectives which is rare for me.  However if I had to pick one, I would choose Cam’s, Probably because I wanted him to find Emmy, I miss the old characters, and the hope of meeting them again was just too exciting.

There wasn’t a lot of “flashbacks” like most do when two series have the same storyline, this prevented boredom.  Thank goodness, this just made me more engrossed by the new characters.  Amazing.

Emmy is missing (read the previous books), Sol is in a deep death like sleep in a temple awaiting his love to return.  The Blue now has a new Empress, yet the sanctuary once filled with normal civilisation is falling to ruin.  The blood supply low, and the humans are just getting by with scraps.

Cam is a loner now, travelling continents to search for his Queen.  Since Emmy was taken “To protect Sol” they were told, his life has not been the same.  He has spent centuries trying to find Emmy to restore the Blue back to it’s original form, with hopes to finally get his King back.  But meeting Felix makes things complicated, more of a self discovering journey.

Julia knows nothing other than the Blue.  All she dreams of is a world away from within these walls, where she can find other humans and try to have a somewhat normal life, other than the one she was abandoned in by her parents.   I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the past series through Julia’s learning.
Emmy and Sol are just a fairytale to her – A vampire who silvered to a mortal, the mortal returns the love, and then they become golden.
Little does she know is that there is more truth to this fairytale and Lucas wants to open her eyes to the truth and possibilities hidden from the humans.

About The Author

I have always written stories, but it wasn’t until I started the first book in the Solis Invicti series in 2014 that I really became obsessed with writing. I love to read, particularly where the escapism of the story is enhanced with an element of fantasy or science fiction. For me, writing is simply an extension of that journey, but I get to decide what happens next (though it’s amazing how often the characters seem to decide for themselves what I’m going to write!).

Stalker by Lars Kepler

If the lights are on, a stalker can see you from outside. But if the lights are off, you can’t see a stalker who is already inside the house.

A video-clip is sent to the National Criminal Investigation Department. Someone has secretly filmed a woman through her window from the garden. The next day she is found dead after a frenzied knife-attack. The police receive a second film of another unknown woman. There is no way of identifying her before time runs out. When her husband finds her he is so traumatized that he cleans the whole house and puts her to bed. He may have seen a vital clue, but is in such an extreme state of shock that the police are unable to question him.

August To Be Read – 4 Books

38228627If I could just kiss all of them: my fantasy Banshee, America’s top rock band and my daddy’s best friends. Ten years later and right out of business school, I have one week to clean the biggest PR mess a band has ever created. One week or I ruin my father’s firm.

Leather jackets, bare chests, cigarette smoke, the dejavu alone has my throat dry and panties wet. I am a mess! I tremble as Cole, Tobias, Jersey and Rory, stare through me with their steely looks. If intent counts, I’d be naked and spread on the same table where I lay my damage control plan.

And I just can’t say no, when they put me in their hot tub. Wet, steamy, desire oozing from my body, I manage to stand as the rockstars close in, moments from making me the luckiest fan girl alive. They pass me around, and I love each one. Love flows hard, like a waterfall.

It’s so wrong, yet feels so right. They are my teenage fantasy and I am their missing link!

My father would freak out;
can I make this arrangement work?

After our first kiss, he moved away.

After our first time together, he confessed it wasn’t his first time.

After buying me my first drink, he said he was with someone else… but still loved me.

Now I’m staring at two pink lines on a pregnancy test… and the number he gave me to call?

It’s been disconnected. Great.
