Review

I was very excited to jump into this book after Gilded King, especially after reading that Emmy and Sol were back….. YES!
Josie keeps to the original characters of this series, Lucas, Julia, Cam and Felix.  However the character perspectives are Julia and Cam.
I asked Josie on Twitter when will we be meeting these characters again, she has informed me February 2019, just in time for my Birthday.
I did ask if Emmy and Sol will be the point of views, but we will continue to see this story from Julia and Cam’s view.  The ending though (oh my god it’s cliffhanger material).

What I liked about this book was the continuity, drama and growth.  Cam and Julia are back, and facing more drama and destruction than ever before.
The flip between each character in each chapter is fluid.
I enjoyed Julia’s journey more in this book, she to hell and back, as a result became a fierce independent woman.

The ending was very well done, throughout the book we’re left guessing why Emmy is so reserved, secretive.  When Sol and Emmy finally meet….. well you have to read to see it’s an OH MY GOODNESS moment.   This is why I am super excited for the next instalment.  The name I do not know as Josie is still writing.

The book didn’t really leave me with any feelings, apart from suspense, this book mainly focuses on their journey’s rather than relationships.  Can they save the Blue, and return their Queen back to their King.

What I disliked – I wouldn’t say there was any real dislikes with this book, however I found the story slower than the first.  I did find I skipped a few lines here and there (oops don’t tell me off). However I can tell that Josie is trying not to rush, she wants us to enjoy the story and get to know these characters, as well as dipping into the other characters surrounding them.  On the other hand, everything sped up in the last 75%.

I have always loved Josie’s stories this year.  My love for these characters kicked off with Emmy and Sol in the Solis Invicti series which I read earlier this year.  Then the release of the Sovereign series drew me back into reading when I was in a funk.
I do prefer the first book in this series compared to this one, only because I felt the pace was a lot slower and there was more action once we reached 80%.
I am excited to read the next instalment.  This series is suitable for younger readers, definitely plenty of fantasy, vampire creatures.

I gave this book an overall rating of 4/5 stars.   But I hold high hopes for the 3rd book early next year.

What am I currently reading –

New Orleans is a city known for its paranormal history—and it’s the place Emma Rose Crane, AKA Mattie Hathaway, has come home to.

She hopes she can start over in New Orleans, where her ability to see ghosts isn’t so freaky. She’s even starting college, but the whole thing would be a lot easier if she weren’t faced with a family she barely knows, all while dealing with the loss of someone she loved.

Can she really escape her past and be semi-normal? Even with her sister Mary and best friend Eric by her side, it’s going to be a wild ride once she agrees to help Mary’s new friends investigate a “haunted” house.

The house’s new occupants are terrified, and the ghost seems to be attacking their little girl, leaving everyone desperate for answers. Emma isn’t sure what to think when she discovers Dr. Lawrence Olivet was also invited to investigate.

Will her gifts be enough to save the family that is currently being stalked in their own home? And when some of her own family’s long-kept secrets come to light, will her fresh start be over before it even begins?

What will I read next –

Two years ago, he took my innocence and ran,
Luckily for me, he’s a slow runner.
He doesn’t know that he gave me the most beautiful gift in the world – my son.
I’m going to give him a gift too – revenge!
And if he’s thinking he can get me and my son…
Well, he can go take a walk!

She’s my best friend’s little sister.
I should never have touched her.
But I did.
She was hot. She was fun. She was begging me for it.
So I gave it to her… all night long.
I told her I loved her. I promised her the moon and stars.
I meant every word.
Then I vanished. I couldn’t tell her why. I still can’t.
We haven’t talked since.
But I saw her yesterday. She’s still hot enough to stop traffic,
Even with a kid.
She’s got secrets, but so do I.
I know she still wants me, but she’s not begging this time.
This time she wants me to beg.
But I don’t beg. I take.
And I’m taking Jessi. Secrets and all.

What am I Currently Reading

Okay I changed my choice from last week because I enjoyed the first books so much.

What blood contaminates, only blood can cleanse.

The last city on Earth is contaminated. Now blood is the only thing that can wash it clean.
Julia is trapped inside the Blue as the Nobles fight over the few humans who are still alive. When the dust settles and she finds herself shackled to a new master, she knows she must escape or die.
Meanwhile, Cam has gathered a handful of comrades and is on his way into the Red to rescue his queen. But not all of his friends can be trusted, and not all of them will make it back alive.

What have I Recently Finished

In the last city on Earth, death is just a step into the trees.

In the Blue, the world’s last city, all is not well.

Julia is stuck within its walls. She serves the nobility from a distance until she meets Lucas, who believes in fairytales that her world can’t accommodate. The Blue is her prison, not her castle, and she’d escape into the trees if she didn’t know that contamination and death awaited humanity outside.

But not everyone in the Blue is human, and not everyone can be contained.

Beyond the city’s boundaries, in the wild forests of the Red, Cameron has precious little humanity left to lose. As he searches for a lost queen, he finds an enemy rising that he thought long dead. An enemy that the humans have forgotten how to fight.

One way or another, the walls of the Blue are going to come down. The only question is what side you’ll be on when they do.
