Destined – By Brenda K. Davies

Terrified of becoming mated like her parents, Isabelle has locked herself away in order to avoid their fate. She is content to stay sheltered amongst her family, hidden away as she lives out her days away from the human race, and the world. Despite her determination to remain alone, her world is rocked when a person from her parent’s past arrives at their door, bringing with them the powerful, and stunning vampire Stefan.

Though Stefan is not expecting to arrive at a nest full of vampires, he is immediately drawn to the vibrant, often defiant, and willful Isabelle. To his surprise, Isabelle does everything in her power to avoid him, and her desire for him.

No matter how hard she tries to fight it though, Isabelle begins to realize that trying to deny her destiny may just destroy them both, as there are some things that cannot be stopped. Just as she begins to let her guard down, Stefan’s dark and deadly past catches up to him and threatens to destroy them both.

Review

The second in the Vampire awakenings series, and I think I have found my new found favourite series. Brenda has well and truly brought back me into the world of vampires, I really recommend this book to you all.

The first “Awakened” was based on Sera and Liam, since then they have had 10 children…… yep 10! See my previous review.
What I think I am going to like about this series is that each book follows the same story line, re visiting previous characters however the point of view is from a different perspective. This book is based on Isabelle the second eldest of the 10 children.
The way Brenda has wrote these books reminds me of how author Nalini Singh shares her books, same story but different characters perspectives. It keeps the series fresh, and leaves you wanting more.

You could read this as a stand alone, however for better context I would advise reading the whole series, it flows better.
Isbaelle and Stefan portray plenty of sexual tension throughout, each chapter was full of character growth, love and pure lust. I really liked the family dynamic, and the inside jokes.

The action again was fast and happened in the very end, I wish it was spread throughout the book. As soon as the fighting began it ended.

I enjoyed reading about Liam and Sera throughout, but they were mentioned briefly leaving Isabelle as the clear focus. Was weird to think that Stefan is older than Sera’s parents.

So far out of the two books this is my favourite. I do think there was some influence from the twilight saga series in this.

Review – Awakened By Brenda K. Davies

Genre – Romance, erotic, fantasy.

Traumatized by her past, and struggling to move on from it, Sera has spent the past three years of college hiding herself from the world and content to stay that way. A chance encounter with Liam shatters her sheltered world, leaving her stunned and shaken by the strange feelings and emotions he arises in her, feelings she never thought she would experience and that frighten her in their intensity. Harboring a dark and deadly secret of his own, Liam knows that he should stay away from Sera; that he will only bring her more hurt, but he is irresistibly drawn to her and unable to deny himself the pleasure that only she can bring to him. But when their pasts collide with their present, and Liam’s true nature is revealed, will their love for each other be enough, or will they be torn apart forever?

Review

Would I say I recommend this book – YES, would I read again – Probably not, but the next book I would……

This book has brought me back from my reading slump. It’s an easy read with everything I love, vampires, romance and plenty of sexual tension. Betrayal, loss and trust play a HUGE part of this plot.

The story does touch on the topic of rape, so if that effects you then I would advise that you not read, however the author has wrote this book so well I think the subject matter has been included well into this story.

I was engrossed in the life of Sera, I enjoyed the friendships and growing relationships. Sera is strong, and growing in herself, I felt proud of her in the end. She battles with what I believe to be post traumatic stress and begins to live her life to the full.

There was no particular plot to this book, since reading the second in the series I believe this one is just the base and beginning for perhaps an even bigger plot later on.
The theme of vampires took a while to pick up, I believe I read about halfway through before any mention of vampires cropped up. There was not much action, the last couple chapters touched on drama, however it fitted well with this story, and the descriptive content was just right for me.
